Independent choreographer Hannah MacKenzie-Margulies seeks student performers for Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, a new contemporary dance adaptation of the children’s book by Eric Kimmel, illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman.

Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins tells the story of a wandering trickster named Hershel who saves a village in Ukraine from a pack of goblins who have taken over their synagogue and are preventing them from celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah. The production will run for approximately 35 minutes and feature live klezmer music. Student performers will appear alongside professional dancers as villagers and/or goblins.

Rehearsals: Sundays, October 20-December 20
Performances: December 26, 28, and 29

Location: All rehearsals and performances will be held at the Jewish Community Center’s Capp Center in St. Paul.

Eligibility Criteria: Ages 7-18 with some dance experience (minimum 3 years recommended but not required) and an excitement to be part of a brand new professional dance production.

Fee: We are asking for a nominal fee of $75 per student to help cover costume expenses, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We may also solicit help from families with chaperoning students at the theater, load-in, strike, and other activities, but these are not requirements for participation.

For more information and to sign up, visit www.hannah-mm.com/hershel. Sign-ups will close on October 1.
