TU Dance Center: Outdoor Dancing Together

A child and parent/caregiver creative movement class.

This workshop is designed for children (ages 2-4) and their parent/caregiver who are interested in a shared movement experience that engages the senses of curiosity and play. Both child and caregiver will participate in developmentally appropriate movement exercises that incorporate elements such as effort, shape, and tempo. Music will play an essential role in the class as students will be asked to respond to sounds as well as make sounds themselves. Participants will be encouraged to join at their own comfort level with the understanding that observation is often the best form of learning with younger children. This class will give children and caregivers the opportunity to learn more about themselves and one another through the art form of dance.

Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen over the last several decades, BMC works with the conscious embodiment of anatomical, physiological, psychophysical, embryological and developmental principles. It uses anatomical information, guided movement, intentional touch, voice, expressive arts, and a developing awareness of the play of conscious attention, or mind.

This class is for movers, dancers, performers, yoga practitioners, bodyworkers, occupational and physical therapists, somatic psychotherapists, infant/child educators, and those from other body-mind disciplines interested in unraveling the mystery of embryological development as it relates to cellular consciousness, movement, and mindfulness.

Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad are a dance, performance and visual artists working at the intersection of social and creative practice, pedagogy, and healing. They are certified teachers and practitioner of Body-Mind Centering and directors of Somatic Education Australasia.
