The TU Dance Pre-Professional program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African dance, and creative workshops for students ages 11 to 24. The TU Dance Summer Intensive builds a strong technique while exploring individual artistry.

July Summer Intensive with Ballet Royale and Guest Instructors

It’s not too late to sign up for Ballet Royale’s Full-Day July Intensive!
July 6-23

An exciting three-week, full day rigorous ballet-based dance program featuring Artistic Directors Denise and Rick Vogt with special guest teachers, including Gary Joyce, formerly with Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, Kiel Ballet, and Nevada Dance Theatre; and Muriel Joyce, formerly with Bavarian State Ballet in Munich and Los Angeles Classical Ballet. 

Ballet Royale offers small class sizes, so each student will receive the finest personalized professional instruction allowing them to reach his or her full potential. Students attending the full in-studio program will be highlighted in an end of program Summer Showcase performance, followed by a Summer Carnival fundraiser hosted by Twin Cities Ballet. 

Classes include Ballet Technique, Pointe, Preparation for Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Character, Variations, Men’s class, Progressing Ballet Technique, Hip Hop, Acting, Choreographic Methods, History of Ballet, Stretching, Injury Prevention, plus enrichment classes.

Four Progressive Divisions (I, II, Advanced Division II and UPPER) for ages eight through professionals. Variable length (one or two weeks), ballet-only, and online-only options are available. Audition required for Division II (age nine) and up.

Shane Larson Teaches at The Arena

ARENA DANCES is excited to welcome mover and teacher Shane Larson back to Minneapolis for a short visit! While back, Shane will be teaching professional contemporary classes at The Arena.

About Shane:
Shane Larson was raised in Minnesota, where he received his early training at the St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. He graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies. He also studied at SEAD in Austria. Since living in New York City, he’s branched out to collaborate with punk musicians, film makers, improvisational music ensembles, and site-specific visual artists. He is also a multimedia video artist making collage-based work about memory. Shane joined the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company in 2015.

Join Ballet Royale for Story Ballet Workshops

Give your young dancer the joy of dance and performance!

On Saturday, July 17, Ballet Royale is offering a mermaid-inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop! Our final story ballet workshop is coming up on August 14. The workshops include a short performance at the end. Take one or both!

Recommended for ages four through nine.
Class sizes will be limited to maintain social distancing.

Summer Jazz Dance Intensive

July 19-23 and July 26-30, 2021
Ages sixteen and older.

Train with some of the Twin Cities top talents in theatrical jazz dance while taking your dance and performing skills to the next level. Our program is tailored to meet the individual goals and needs of EACH dancer. ALL ARE WELCOME.

TU Dance Center: Summer 2021 – EQUIPOISE Program – July 28 to August 24

In partnering with TU Dance, Equipoise will provide the unique, hybrid (online/in person), opportunity of having individualized curriculum alongside one-on-one assessment sessions and coaching that compliment and deepen professional training.

Equipoise is a diverse collective of established professionals offering expertise in relevant areas of the performing arts – supporting and mentoring young dance artists and providing tools and resources to nurture the growth, development, and success of professionally oriented dancers.

In addition to the TU Dance Summer Intensive classes, Equipoise will provide the following workshops and sessions: Self-care/Health and Wellbeing, Contract Fluency, Audition Coaching, Self Advocacy, Personal and Professional Budgeting, Personal Branding, Injury Prevention, Resume Preparation, Workers’ Rights, and more.

Threads Dance Project Presents Workshops with Solomon Dumas

Join us at the Nexus with Solomon Dumas!

The Karen L. Charles Threads Dance Project presents two movement workshops with Solomon Dumas, Company Member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

The first class is a community workshop that is designed for movers of all ages and will take place Friday, July 30 from 6:00-7:30pm. Saturday’s workshop will target pre-professional and professional dancers ages 16+ and take place from 10:00-11:30am on July 31.

Both workshops will take place at the Threads Dance Nexus, located in the Seward Neighborhood in South Minneapolis.
Each workshop will be followed by a twenty minute ‘Ask the Artist’ conversation.
These workshops are being offered free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $20.

Grand Prix Solos and Variations Intensive with Ballet Royale

Ballet Royale, Minnesota’s premier ballet academy, is offering a focused ballet and variations workshop, specializing in preparing dancers for performing or competing in national ballet competitions.

Following daily classical ballet technique class, dancers learn classic ballet variations and receive advanced personal coaching. This workshop benefits all dancers, whether preparing for a competition, an upcoming performance, or simply wanting to polish and improve their artistry, technique, and quality.

Katha Dance Theatre Summer Kathak Intensive

Katha Dance Theatre (KDT) has been teaching and performing Kathak, the North Indian classical dance form, for over three decades. Kathak is an elegant dance form characterized by rhythmic footwork, graceful hand gestures, pirouettes, lyrical movements, and storytelling. KDT is excited to be offering a two-week virtual Kathak intensive this August, to be co-taught by Kathak master Durga Arya-Krüger. Classes will be offered via Zoom on weekend mornings (taught by Ms. Arya-Krüger) and weekday evenings (taught by KDT instructors).

The intensive is open to anyone with two or more years of Kathak experience.
Classes run from August 14-26 for the following groups:

Group A: youth and adults with 2 or more years of Kathak experience

Group B: youth and adults with 4 or more years of Kathak experience

Group C: youth and adults with 5 or more years of Kathak experience. This includes intermediate students, interns and KDT Company dancers.
