The Arena – Drop-In Moving Practice with Nieya Amezquita

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment.

Nieya Amezquita teaches Moving Practice in July
Tuesdays, 10:00-11:30am
Last class with Nieya is July 25; Taja Will teaches in August.

Professional-level dancers of all styles are welcome.
Pre-registration and payment beforehand are encouraged.
Suggested price of $17 per class. Pay-as-able option on all classes – we would rather you join us than not be able to attend due to financial limitations.

Nieya’s contemporary class will be a mix of various modern techniques such as Horton and Graham. We will explore the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement and also dive into different ways of trusting the body in combinations, floor work, and improvisation.

Originally from Decatur, GA, Nieya is a dancer and choreographer based in the Twin Cities. Nieya graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Dance and a BS in Psychology. During her time at UGA, Nieya became a founding company member of both CADE:NCE and Linds&Co where she had the opportunity to perform nationally and internationally. Currently, Nieya is performing with Threads Dance Project and Rhythmically Speaking Dance. She has also worked with Alexandra Bodnarchuk Dance Projects, Yuki Tokuda, Off-Leash Area, and Concerto Dance. In addition to performing, Nieya is an independent choreographer who recently created contemporary works for Ballet Co.Laboratory, the Blackness Is… arts festival produced by the Guthrie Theater, Threads Dance Project, and Alternative Motion Project. She is now working on her first evening-length work to premiere at the Southern Theater in June 2024.
