AMVTP Mentorship/Coaching Program Application is Open

AMVTP’s mentoring/coaching program is a one-year mentorship open to a young professional entering their junior year of high school in Fall 2021 and graduating in the class of 2023. This program is for a self-driven, self-motivated and focused female dancer of colour looking to pursue a career in dance. The mentee will work with AMVTP Artistic Director and independent Dancer-Choreographer, Alanna Morris-Van Tassel, on post-secondary school/college-preparedness as well as life and business skills.
This mentorship includes research on scholarships ($$$); a solo dance commission (for auditions and scholarships); college essay review and editorial assistance; and letters of recommendation (as needed). The mentee will have access to Alanna’s global network of dance artists, including top educators at leading educational institutions, directors, dancers and choreographers working in a multiplicity of backgrounds—companies as well as freelance–encompassing a wide range of aesthetics, and geographies.

Artists Wanted

Five paintings will be chosen to be used by our dancers on stage.
All other submissions will be featured as part of our artist gallery at Como Lakeside Pavillion on June 5-6.

To enter the contest, bring your 16″ x 20″ vertical canvas creation to the Ballet Co.Laboratory studios by Friday, May 28. All artist creations will be returned after the production.

School Admin Intern Wanted

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s School Administration internship is designed for individuals interested in learning the ins and outs of running a pre-professional ballet school. The ideal candidate for this position would have exceptional organization, written, computer, and interpersonal skills. Experience with the software MindBody is a plus. 

Summer Internship
Ten weeks: June–August, 2021
24 hours per week

Main Activities

  • Assist in activities to recruit new students of all ages to The School of Ballet Co.Laboratory
  • Work importing and cleaning up data in MindBody software
  • Help coordinate and execute summer open house events
  • Lead student registration and check-in activities
  • Reset and clean studios in-between classes

Requirements
To ensure an optimal experience for the intern, the following is required:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in MindBody is a plus.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, investigate, and offer alternative solutions to problems.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn.

Internship Location
All interns fulfill their hours the Ballet Co.Laboratory’s studios located at 276 E Lafayette Frontage Road in St. Paul. The internship is unpaid, although all interns receive free classes at BCL throughout their internship.

Graphic Design Intern Wanted

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s Graphic Design Internship is designed for individuals interested in executing and refining their design skills. The ideal candidate for this position would have knowledge of designing for both print/electronic platforms, have experience in photography/videography, be able to hit deadlines, and have creative solutions on how to visually market for our productions, school, outreach events, fundraising campaigns, and more. 

Summer Internship
Ten weeks: June–August 2021
24 hours per week

Main Activities

  • Assist in the creation of the 2021/22 performance season print brochure and online elements
  • Assist in advancing marketing materials to attract new students to our 2021/22 school year
  • Assist in the development of BCL’s 2020/21 Report to the Community (Annual Report)
  • Work to capture photo/video footage of dancers in motion in efforts to create a short season video

Requirements
To ensure an optimal experience for the intern, the following is required:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in working with website CMS systems.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, investigate, and offer alternative solutions to problems.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn.

Call for Proposals for Off Leash Area’s Off-Kilter Cabaret

Off-Leash Area’s new community program, Off-Kilter Cabaret, is designed to highlight and support artists with disabilities. Seven artists will be selected by a panel of leaders in the disability community to perform their works in the inaugural Off-Kilter Cabaret. The theme of this year’s Cabaret is “Organ Recital,” which we hope will provoke artists to propose risky, unapologetic, and entertaining performances using their body organs and systems as inspiration.

The Off-Kilter Advisory Group and Selection Panel are: writer and storyteller Amy Salloway, arts accessibility consultant Jon Skaalen, dance artist Mike Cohn, host of the Disability and Progress program on KFAI Sam Jasmine, and Off-Leash Area co-artistic directors Paul Herwig and Jennifer Ilse.

The Off-Kilter Cabaret will be presented in the outdoor rail court at the Mill City Museum on August 19, 20, and 22. Locally known as the site of the Mill City Farmers’ Market, Off-Leash Area will construct an accessible elevated stage with full lighting, sound, and projection capability, and retain the steampunk vibe of the reclaimed industrial site. We will require physically distanced seating, masks, and other protocols using CDC and state COVID guidelines at the time of the performances as the minimum baseline for requirements.

Artist Proposals: We are looking for live performances, 5-10 minutes in length, original and unique, challenging and provoking.

MEADOWLARK Outdoor Promenade Performance in Bryn Mawr Meadows

Weekly outdoor, promenade performances. Audiences stroll past works of art (music, dance, spoken word, aerial, and visual 2D/3D art works) created and performed live in the natural and urban setting of one of Minneapolis’s lesser-known parks (set to be renovated in 2022). No rehearsals, no money, no stress.

When: Four Sundays, June 6, 13, 20, 27 from 6:00-7:00pm
Ideally all four, but even one is possible.

Informational sessions Wednesday, May 19 at 6:00pm and Sunday May 23 at 4:00pm and as needed. Contact host.

Who: Sally Rousse and Alejandra Iannone, creators, along with 15-40 contributors (actors, movers, comedians, aerialists, tappers, poets, singers, musicians, 2D/3D artists).

Here’s the thing — if you’ve been feeling conflicted and anxious about generating anything, this is a great way to dive in and connect with the dance community in person. You can simply take on one of the scores Alejandra and I are creating: rigorous alien game/competition for a group of 10+ movers; or a more gentle score for 3-5 people.

Young Dance Company Audition and Information Session

Join us on Saturday, May 22 to get a taste of the Young Dance performing company.

Introductory Workshop/Audition, 11:45am-12:45pm
For dancers ages seven through 18 of all abilities and all levels of experience.
This session will include an introduction about the company with current company members, and a workshop led by incoming Artistic Director, Anat Shinar.

Following the workshop at 12:45pm, Executive Director Gretchen Pick will hold a Q&A for interested participants.

The audition will be held as hybrid. Participants can attend in-person at Young Dance or online through Zoom.

The Young Dance Performing Company is a group of passionate dancers committed to exploring themselves and their world through dance. Young Dance company members take dance classes, collaborate with professional choreographers, create dances themselves, and perform throughout the year. The company is open to dancers of all abilities and all levels of experience. We encourage anyone excited about dance to audition.

Twin Cities Ballet Open Company Positions

Twin Cities Ballet has an open position for a male company dancer, Soloist and Principal level. Competitive salaried position, 34-week season. Strong classical ballet and contemporary technique required. 

Submit the following audition materials by email:

  1. Your resumé.
  2. Two photos: first arabesque; and a headshot showing at least 3/4 face. Either attach small format photos or provide a link.
  3. Video link showing classwork or performance clips, clearly demonstrating your classical ballet technique.
  4. State whether you are currently eligible to work in the United States.

MAJOR MAITENANCE

MAJOR MAINTENANCE is an opportunity for 6 self-defined, LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC, Minnesota-based, dance makers to have access to 200 hours of generative incubation space, for one year (up to two years).

What is our relationship to newness? As a society, we participate in a manufactured, late-capitalist and technology driven (innovate-no-matter-what) culture that prioritizes innovation and the new. As a dance field, what is the cost on our bodies? We are already implicated in multiple systems that consistently guide us to invest most of our energies and resources into the next new thing or work. Is there a way to make all aspects of dance-making supportable and wholesome to ourselves and cultivate a balance? MAJOR MAINTENANCE is the invitation. It is time and space to build up resources, methods and practices that can live in relationship with the existing paradigms of innovation or newness.

This invitation is open to dance makers who are not new to their craft.

How to apply: Artists who are interested will sign up for one 15-minute Zoom meeting with Valerie and Morgan. This will be followed by one 30-minute meeting at MOVO SPACE, for those shortlisted. There is no written application, though shortlisted artists may be asked to prepare or send previously created work samples, resumes or other writing.
