Audition: A TU Dance Project with Choreography by Marcus Jarrell Willis

TU Dance is holding auditions for live presentations and a film creation project this spring with performances at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 13-14, 2022. With support from a MSAB Arts Tour Grant, choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis will be working with a group of dancers for a nine-week rehearsal process to reimagine and expand upon his work Sensible Existence, which was originally created for the TU Dance Company in 2017. This experience will culminate in two live performances as well as the creation of a dance-for-film project that will be shared throughout the state of Minnesota and beyond.

For this project, we are seeking dance artists with a vast range of technical versatility. A keen sense of rhythm and articulation of gestural language is essential. Seasoned professionals to emerging dance artists are encouraged to audition.

PROJECT DETAILS:

  • Nine-week rehearsal process: March 14-May 14, 2022
  • Time frame: 9:30am-4:15pm CST Monday-Friday
  • Tech Week: May 9-14
  • Performances: Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 at The O’Shaughnessy, St. Paul, MN

Dancers will be compensated $600/week and hired as independent contractors. Airfare, housing, per diem and local transportation are not provided.

Generating Room Applications for January-June 2022 Series Now Open

The Cowles Center’s Generating Room program is a six-month long studio residency that supports three Minnesota artists and/or collectives in nurturing a work in progress through 100 hours of free rehearsal space, as well as marketing and administrative support. This program is intended for artists at any stage of their career who need time and space to develop a project or idea rooted in dance without the pressure of a completed end product.

Program proposals should leverage this opportunity to launch the project into next steps and must involve a partnership with a distinct community or use community engagement as part of the proposal. Artists or organizations from outside of Minnesota may partner on the project, but the lead applicant must be based in Minnesota.

Competitive applications will bring a unique perspective, discussion, and engagement opportunity to the Minnesota arts community. Past Generating Room projects have included: open rehearsals, work-in-progress showings, roundtable discussions, workshop series, and film showings.

Open Call for Instructors – Zenon Dance School, Contract Position

Zenon provides instruction for dancers of all genders, orientations, abilities and levels of experience. A key part of our mission is providing quality dance classes for adult professional, community dancers, and youth in Minneapolis.

Zenon is seeking several new instructors to teach adult and youth classes for our 2021 Winter Session.  If you are passionate about working with adult or young dancers and have experience teaching movement classes we would love to hear from you.

Winter Session: This is a contracted position for 10 weeks, January 10–March 20. Weekend and weekday class times are available.

RS Seeking Jazz and American Social Dance-Inspired Works for Stage and Screen

Rhythmically Speaking is seeking works for stage and screen for presentation as a part of our program The Cohort 2022. The program includes a live stage production in the Twin Cities in summer 2022 and dance film screenings in the fall in partnership with the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema (CO). Submitted works must explore jazz and/or American social dance ideas from forms including but not limited to tap and hip hop styles. We encourage you to join the ongoing conversation around “what constitutes jazz and American social dance,” and the sociocultural histories of and innovations in these styles by submitting.

Artists 21 and older at any point in their careers are welcomed to submit. Separate curatorial panels for stage and screen works will select three works for the live production in August 2022, and 7-10 films for fall screening events. Stage submissions must be for eight or fewer dancers and between 15-22 minutes in length, and will be selected through both this open call and by invitation. The staged works panel will be selecting two works of existent, revisited repertoire from visiting (based outside of Minnesota) artists, and one proposal for a new work from a local (Minnesota-based) artist. All stage works will be performed by the Rhythmically Speaking company dancers. Screen works submissions must be between 2-15 minutes in length.

Facilities Coordinator – Threads Dance Nexus

The Karen L. Charles Threads Dance Project and Threads Dance Nexus are seeking a Facilities Coordinator.

The Facilities Coordinator is a multifaceted role responsible for shoring up the logistical and operational foundations of the organization. This position is reports directly to the Managing Director and provides broad exposure to a variety of arts administration careers – opening the door for future exploration.

Education:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • BA/BS in Dance, Business Administration, Arts Administration or related fields a plus

Qualifications:

  • Must have reliable transportation to the Threads Dance Nexus, 2213 Snelling Ave, Minneapolis, 55404; as well as ability to work remotely
  • Interest/experience in concert dance, dance education, and non-profit organizations
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Google Suite, and basic computer literacy
  • Proficient in major social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The Cowles Center is Hiring an Audience Services Manager

Join our team! The Cowles Center is looking for an Audience Services Manager – a crucial part of our day-to-day operations and Box Office oversight. Do you have customer-facing, sales, or membership experience? This could be the role for you!

The Audience Services Manager plays an important role in the day-to-day operations at The Cowles Center, creating a welcoming and safe environment for patrons attending events throughout The Cowles Center complex. This position is responsible for all aspects of The Cowles Center’s box office and front-of-house operations, including supervising a part-time staff of events associates, managing The Cowles Center’s volunteer program, and overseeing all ticketing activity and patron interactions. The Audience Services Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations and Production.

This is a full-time hybrid position with benefits. Salary range: $41,000-$47,000.

Taja Will is Hiring a Project Manager

Choreographer Taja Will is looking for a Project Manager for their upcoming local premiere of LINEAS de SANGRE, a dance film, screening at the Trylon Cinema December 2, 4, and 9, 2021.

Timeline:
Ideal start date is on or before November 1, through the wrap up and debrief of the premiere. There is a possibility to extend the contract through an online screening premiere in early 2022. The Project Manager will be needed for all three of the local screening dates.

Approximate Hourly Commitment:
First through third weeks of November: 10 hours per week
Fourth week of November through second week of December: 20 hours per week

Subject to change based on time management, familiarity with tasks and other intersecting situations that make accomplishing tasks easier or more complicated. (Including the planets!)

Tasks/Duties:
The Project Manager will be responsible for composing a newsletter announcement, assisting with communication with the venue, communications with the core team of collaborators, social media announcements, merchandise sales, and helping with ticket sales at the screenings. They will also assist with planning a post-screening reception at another venue on one of the premiere dates.

The nature of the work is emergent, meaning new tasks and needs will arise as the project gets closer and it is likely those tasks will be delegated, in part, to the Project Manager. Asking questions, finding creative solutions and time management are all skills that are valued in the role.

The ideal candidate is local and has easy access to a car. Additionally, the person in this role will have a sense of what is needed to work with a disabled/chronically ill artist, or is willing to learn how those needs are different from working with an able bodied artist. QTBIPOC folks encouraged to apply, because the majority of the company of collaborators are brown and queer, as is the company culture. White folks with deep practice of allyship also welcome to express interest.

Compensation:
Variable based on experience, and gas reimbursement.
