Dance/Movement Therapy with Children: A Developmental Perspective

Pre-requisite: 30 hours/2 credits of Dance/Movement Therapy coursework or permission of instructor. This course can be taken for university credit. Contact Barbara for details.

This experiential and didactic course focuses on child development from birth up to adolescence as well as the role movement plays when working with children. The course will emphasize movement development through the lens of movement assessment (LMA and KMP) as well as introduce and practice concepts for DMT-based therapeutic interventions. Attention will be paid to both the genetic (“nature”) and environmental (“nurture”) factors influencing movement and development. This course is approved by the American Dance Therapy Association, for Alternate Route R-DMT credit.

Instructor: Mariah Meyer LeFeber, MA LPC BC-DMT specializes in working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum and related disorders, trauma and attachment, and in preventative care. Her current interest lies in studying the relationship between Dance/Movement Therapy and resilience in under-resourced youth. Mariah works clinically and also as an educator.
